How he figured this out: He always used to stick his 2 fingers in his mouth (as demonstrated in the video) and pull on his eyelashes when he was tired. I'm guessing that at some point the pull turned into a flip and this is the result. Funny thing...he almost ALWAYS has to have his fingers in his mouth before he will flip the eyelid, though occasionally when he gets going and there is an audience involved he will take the fingers out and go for the grand display of flipping both eyelids at the same time. Obviously I wasn't that great of an audience.
I was (and maybe still am) a little worried that the cartilage (or whatever is in the eyelid) might lose it's shape and he'd end up with a deformed eye - which it actually looks like it is when this video ends but it's really not...at least not yet - so I talked to the pediatrician about it. She said that she didn't think it would do any damage but that it would probably be best to ignore it when he does it and hopefully he will stop doing it eventually. So far that hasn't happened - as you can tell by my encouraging him to do this for the camera for you all to see. btw...sorry for the squeals. I know they are obnoxious but that's the kind of reaction he really goes for.
